The holidays can be a joyous yet stressful time for those of us cooking, shopping, or traveling. Many of us also deal with the stress of chronic back pain which interferes with truly enjoying our time with loved ones. Here are some tips to help you destress and decrease your back pain:

1.Go for a relaxing morning walk before the craziness begins. Even a 15- or 30-minute walk can help start your morning off the right way. 2.Use your time off wisely. Take a few days off before/after the holidays? This is your chance to start a new routine. Start small by substituting some unhealthy habits, such as lounging on the couch first thing in the morning to opening the curtains and straightening out your bedroom. Stay active during the holidays and make yourself a healthy breakfast of fruits, eggs, and oats. ‍3. Set aside time for stretching. Click Here for Back Stretching Tips 4. Avoid overeating. You can still enjoy your Christmas Turkey and Holiday cake, but make sure you don’t overeat. Try to keep your meals balanced throughout the day so you don’t overeat during family dinner. 5. Take a break! Whether you are cooking, decorating, or cleaning to prepare for the holidays, make sure you take a 10-minute break every hour to relax your muscles. 6. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Try swapping out the heels for something more comfortable especially if you’re dealing with low back pain. Wearing something comfortable will relax your body and mind. 7. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Avoid doing everything yourself. You can get things done quicker and avoid back pain if you ask your family to pitch in.
